Today & Ahead: Gainesville Event Highlights

Hey Gainesville—it’s Jacob Taylor checking in with what’s on tap around town today and this week. If you’re looking for something to do, here are spots worth your time.

Today: What’s Going On

  • Library Open Hours & Story Times – Several branches of the Alachua County Library District (Hawthorne, Millhopper, Headquarters) are hosting free open hours, story times and music sessions throughout today—perfect for families and anyone who loves books.
  • Pop-up Gift Shop at Reitz Union – From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the North Lawn is hosting a Gator Market pop-up. Local vendors, crafty goods, and a good excuse to stroll on campus.
  • Baby Time / Preschool Story Time – Kids’ programs are running mid-morning at the Alachua Branch and the Headquarters Library. Quiet, fun, and usually free.

Coming Up: Events You Won’t Want to Miss

  • Florida Gators Soccer vs Jacksonville – Thursday evening, the Gators take on Jacksonville at Dizney Stadium. If you love college sports, this is a good chance to root for the orange & blue.
  • Art After Dark at Harn Museum – Also Thursday evening, enjoy the museum after hours with special exhibits and extended hours. A great plan for a mellow night out.
  • Free Fridays Concert Series – The long-running outdoor concert series returns this weekend on Bo Diddley Plaza. Free music under the stars is always a Gainesville favorite.
  • Our Town Home & Garden Show – Saturday and Sunday at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center. Great ideas if you’re reviving your space and want inspiration.

Spotlight of the Week

“Gainesville Musicians at the Free Community Jazz Sessions” is happening Thursday night at Heartwood Soundstage. It’s free, local-talent driven, and a fine way to spend the evening if jazz’s on your radar.

If you want more ideas—indoor, outdoor, family-friendly or late night—just let me know. I keep this beat alive every week so you can make the most of what our city has to offer.
