New Fire Stations to Meet Growing Demand
To address increasing emergency service demands, Gainesville is constructing two new fire stations. Fire Station #3 will relocate from 900 NE Waldo Road to NE 8th Avenue between NE 14th and NE 13th Streets, with construction expected to begin in late May. Similarly, Fire Station #9 will move from 4213 SW 30th Avenue to the future Southwest Public Safety Center near Archer Road and Interstate 75. These relocations aim to improve response times and service coverage across the city.
Police Property and Evidence Building
The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is set to break ground on a new three-story, 24,112 square-foot Property and Evidence Building. This facility will accommodate the growing volume of GPD property and evidence, ensuring efficient management and storage. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for April 24 at 10 a.m. on the GPD campus.
Community Engagement and Safety Initiatives
In addition to infrastructure projects, Gainesville is focusing on community engagement to enhance safety. The Downtown Ambassador Program offers a visible, friendly presence in key areas, while the Downtown Events Grant Program brings more community-centered activities to the heart of the city.
